In this collection I deviate from the traditional black and white look to include some exquisite minimalistic high-key works. My goal is to produce artworks that have been influenced by the beautiful ink drawings of accomplished Japanese Sumi-e ink artists.
These works were photographed and processed in tribute to my late mother, a Professor of Japanese Floral Art.
All photographs in this collection are authentic reflections of my artistic vision of the African landscapes and the beautiful art forms found therein, all of which have been created by nature
My artistic process is to first free the subject from its boundaries by starting with a blank white page. Then I very carefully burn only the details of the subject into my frame with a narrow beam of "light" by using a time-honoured dark room process, as if creating a Sume-e drawing.
It is a very time consuming job and can take days to create just one artwork.
This method accentuates the beautiful elements of the subject to form the final artwork.
